Confirmation at our church is a mentoring program. Young adults meet with mentors on Sunday mornings from 9:00 to 10:00 am. Using the Theocademy Confirmation curriculum published by the Synod of Mid-America, students and mentors view the videos and discuss topics such as what it means to be Presbyterian, the sovereignty of God, Jesus as Lord and Savior, the Holy Spirit, the authority of the Bible, the Confessions, Sacraments, Church Polity and striving to live a life aligned with our faith.
In between meetings, all participants are invited to share questions and engage in further discussion through the forum on this website.
We use a combination of additional resources, including The Study Catechism: Confirmation Version, Presbyterian 101, from the PC(USA) website and many others found on the Resources page on this website. Confirmands are asked to read through the Gospel of Mark and keep a personal journal of passages they find interesting, confusing, or inspiring. They are encouraged to pray for each other throughout the year.
Other learning activities include attending and evaluating Sunday worship, a Confirmation Day Event at Camp Johnsonburg, volunteering at least 30 hours in service to the church and its missions and writing a personal faith statement. After meeting with the Session, Confirmands are confirmed as full members of the Church in the company of the whole congregation in worship on Pentecost Sunday.
